Rebuild

Starting all over again. It has to be the hardest thing to do in life. That choking feeling when you realize everything you had invested in a job, a business, an investment scheme, a relationship or project now amounts to the grand sum of zero.

I have been there too many times. It’s a crushing feeling, one I always hope to avoid but being active with life demands this reckoning with grim reality. If you attempt nothing, you are spared this special breed of heart ache. If you cultivate the knowing comfort of known shores, sure bets and unruffled feathers you have nothing to fear from the crushing ache of disaster.

Disaster seems reserved for those who venture.

Those who don’t venture may be spared the pain experienced when things go sideways but they also exist in a world of limited expectations of surprise, the many gifts of unexpected success is a thing they read about in the life stories of others.

What is the joy of such a life?

Crushing defeat is character building. The time between awareness of loss and getting back on the saddle should be bottled and standardized in a test for recruitment. The easier it becomes to turn completely from what was lost and begin the trek to what’s next, the stronger your character becomes. A soul forged in fire.

We must forget the spilled milk and press to fill our glass anew.

The devil has had a taste of it anyway.

Forget the lost, press on to the new.

Rebuild.
